Roberts Jewellers Takes Over Archer & Holland Storefront
Adelaide-based jeweller, Roberts Jewellers, has taken over the former Archer & Holland premises in Adelaide’s City Cross, following the latter’s closure in July.
The family-owned business, led by second-generation jeweller Craig Roberts, will continue to offer the services previously provided by Archer & Holland, including a free ring cleaning service for former customers of the now-closed jeweller.
Preserving a Family Legacy
Craig, who runs the business alongside his wife Kirsty, brings nearly 20 years of experience in jewellery making, having learned the craft from his father, John M Roberts, a master jeweller in Adelaide since 1968. After working with his father for over 12 years, Craig opened his own store in Old Reynella in 2023. With the acquisition of Archer & Holland’s former premises, the couple is expanding their business while continuing both family traditions.
Craig Roberts expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue this legacy. “We’ve had a longtime relationship with Bill and Meredith from Archer & Holland, so when this opportunity came up it felt like a natural progression for us to have a presence in the city. Our values of handcrafting high-quality jewellery align with theirs, and their relationships with their customers is something that Kirsty and I really admire and are passionate to continue on.”
Archer & Holland’s Retirement
Archer & Holland, run by Bill and Meredith Whiting, announced their retirement in March, concluding more than 40 years of service to Adelaide’s jewellery community. The Whiting family had been at the helm of the business for three generations, establishing a reputation for design, handbuilding, repairing, and setting jewellery. Commenting on the handover, Meredith Whiting said, “We couldn’t be more grateful that Craig and Kirsty have stepped in to continue the tradition of generational master jewellery making. We are thrilled that we know our wonderful community of customers will be in good hands.”
With the closure of Archer & Holland, a long-standing business in Adelaide’s jewellery scene closed, but the transition to Roberts Jewellers ensures that traditional craftsmanship remains accessible. Roberts Jewellers maintains a focus on bespoke pieces and personal service, bridging traditional methods with modern demands.
